2017 International Portfolio competitionArriving to SOHO Photo Gallery for the opening reception! Excellent time in NYC. The exhibition is on display through June 3, 2017. Great semester working with Ole Miss student Maddie Robinson for an independent study in photography. Below is her series of tri-color gum bichromate prints.  Art 101- 2D Design's Project 1: Exploring Value with the theme: Landscape using cut grayscale paper,s a 12X15 picture plane on bristol board. Project 1: Landsacpe & Value1 Hour in Class Exercise: "Notan" - design from a square Line & Shape w/ Color. Theme: Biomorphic/BioArt   Extremely excited about sending prints to this upcoming solo exhibition in May through the 2017 SOHO Photo Gallery Portfolio Competition.
In 2-d Design students explored positive & negative space with various lines, shape. Many incorporated a variety of objects and worked with drawings on vellum to create their designs. Communication Project: Value & a 1 page artist statement  Molly McCully Brown's poetry book arrived today and it's amazing. "Haunted by the voices of those committed to the American eugenics movement in the first half of the twentieth century, this evocative debut marks the emergence of a poet of exceptional poise and compassion..." Thanks Molly McCully Brown for having my photograph as the cover of your exquisite book.
https://mollymccullybrown.com/ The Virginia State Colony For Epileptics and Feebleminded won the 2016 Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize and will be published in 2017 by Persea Books. Currently, Molly is a John and Renée Grisham Fellow at the University of Mississippi.  "Mississippi is a wild, haunting place as many of us have realized in reading works by authors such as William Faulkner. Jaime introduces us to this place. It is a scary world and not one where we should tread lightly or be unprepared. At this time, when the role of women is being discussed in limiting terms, I rejoice in her concept of the “feral woman” finding her way through what is still a “treacherous” environment. It’s good to know we can go back to nature to find the inspiration needed to survive and overcome the obstacles along the way. In some ways an online portrayal fails to capture the “untamed” rawness of her tactile images and their translucent quality; you need to hold them in your hands up to the light to fully appreciate them. But, at least, they leave us with a haunting reminder that the gap between nature and ourselves may be smaller than we acknowledge." --Betty Press  Below is some work from my 2-D Design students. *This project objective was to create a composition that communicates a message to the viewer, accompanied by a 1 page artist statement.
